Government Center Parking Garage

TBI Construction Company, LLC provided design build services to the City of New Britain for the development of a 1,700 car pre-cast concrete garage.

New Britain, like many of Connecticut’s larger cities, is relatively land poor in support of new development. The creation of a structured parking facility allows greater development of limited downtown by maximizing existing land usage.

The Government Center Garage presented some unique problems. It needed to relate physically in its architecture and size to adjacent buildings, and it had to provide secure access to the courthouse. The final design provided a controlled access environment for judges, courthouse staff and sequestered jurors. The garage also offers approximately two-thirds of its spaces for public use. To ensure safety of court personnel, the garage is connected to the courthouse by an elevated pedestrian bridge. TBI Construction joined forces with the Downes Construction Co. in completing this garage on time and on budget.
