New Britain City Hall New
Britain, CT

TBI Construction Company, LLC provided design build
services for the partial demolition, restoration and
expansion of the New Britain City Hall.
The New York City architectural firm of McKim, Mead
& White blazed the trail in bringing Italian Palazzo
motif to the United States. The New Britain City Hall
was constructed as a hotel in 1883 and was applauded by
architects as worthy of standing along side the other
notable creations of this firm such as the Boston Public
Library, building on the Columbia University Campus and
numerous homes in Newport, Rhode Island. TBI
Construction as design builder, assembled a team that
demolished an historically less important wing to the
building and replaced it with a five story addition of
steel, precast and brick that tastefully relates to the
historic façade at the head of the city green. The
result was a 120,000 square foot city hall with
state-of-the art mechanical, electrical and elevator
systems. The Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation
cited the building at its 1993 awards presentation. TBI
Construction accomplished this project with Kaestle Boos
Associates and the Frank E. Downes Construction Co.
